The eight piece band showcased their new material to a packed out venue of avid Ska/Reggae fans, entertaining the crowd with a medley of unique and original songs. After a rocky reggae blues performance from Datura, the Reggaskas took to the Live Garden stage with an audience brimming with eagerness to hear the new album performed live for the very first time.
The band opened the show with the album titled track ‘Long Way Home’, before getting the crowd grooving along to other songs such as the band’s first single, the 2014 hit, ‘Who’s the Daddy’ as well as ‘Mr Trumpet’ and ‘On a Mission’. The set was also littered with a number of reggae and ska classics. Beat International’s ‘Dub be Good to Me’ and The Specials’ classic, ‘A Message to you Rudy’ were among the covers, all of which had the Newton Abbot crowd in voice, providing the backing vocals to what was an exceptionally powerful performance from young singer Lizy Eames.
Lizy Eames provided a strong vocal performance.
The band was founded by brothers, Mike and Steve 2 years ago, with the talent of Lizy Eames’ powerful vocals and Harry on drums, Dave on bass, Simon on keys, and Chris on guitar. The show at the Jolly Farmer was a chance to showcase all the hard work that has gone into achieving the band’s aim.
The result was a blend of excellent musicianship coupled with exciting raw talent. Every song was driven by a strong rhythm section of drums, bass, guitar and keys accompanied by a lively brass section of saxophone, trumpet and trombone. The crowd received the new material with open arms, singing along and dancing from start to finish.
The Reggaskas got the crowd grooving to some classic Ska sounds.
Band founder and saxophonist Mike commented on the success of the album launch party:
The night was a huge success with people sharing their thoughts on the band’s Facebook page:
